The Day of Judgement Will Destroy Pride

The haughty looks of man shall be brought low, and the lofty pride of men shall be
humbled, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day
. -Isaiah 2:11

Beloved Kinney,

Often when we think about the purpose of the final judgment day when Christ returns,
we think of it in terms of judgment of sin in general. Isaiah 2:11 is more specific. The day
of judgment is designed to destroy our pride.

Underneath all sin is some form of pride. Sin is when we seek to shove God off his
throne and place ourselves on it. Nothing is more prideful.

This is why the Bible repeatedly says God loves a humble heart. James 4:6, “God
opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Matthew 18:4, “Whoever humbles
himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Luke 14:11, “For
everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be
exalted.”

Let us strive not only to think less of ourselves, but to think of ourselves less. Think a lot
about God—his goodness, his grace, his holiness, his glory. Think about others—their
needs and desires, how you can love and serve them.

The return of Christ is salvation for the humble, but judgment for the prideful. Kill pride
and look forward to the day of salvation for those who have been humbled by the
gracious work of God in Christ.

Love,
Pastor Josh
