Beloved Kinney,
As we’ve worked through Genesis, we’ve come across the theme of heaven a lot. This is
because the land promised to Abraham and his offspring is ultimately fulfilled in the New
Creation.
I’m convinced we don’t think about heaven enough. I urged us this past Sunday to be more
disciplined to dwell on heaven. Here’s a quote from Jonathan Edwards (that I read in the
sermon) that I pray will stir your affections for the world to come.
“To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends, are but shadows; but the enjoyment of God is the substance. These are but scattered beams; but God is the sun. These are but streams, but God is the fountain. These are but drops; but God is the ocean.” (Edwards, 244)
May our hearts long for heaven because God will be there. What a glorious day that will be!
Love,
Pastor Josh
