Worship Service
The normal elements of a worship service at Kinney are singing, praying, reading Scripture, and preaching. We also partake of the Lord's Supper each Sunday and observe baptism as occasion allows.
Preaching. Our normal practice is to preach expositionally through Scripture. This means that the main point of the passage preached is the main point of the sermon, applied to the congregation. The steady diet at Kinney is to preach through books of the Bible chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse. This practice ensures our church hears the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27).
Singing. We seek to select songs of worship that are Christ-centered and biblically rich. Since Scripture emphasizes corporate singing in the worship gathering (Eph. 5:19), our goal is for the congregation itself to be the “church choir.” Therefore, our music seeks to accompany the voices of the congregation.
Praying. We seek to pray not only for the needs of our church, but also for the needs of other churches in the area. We pray for our city and its officials, our state, our country, and even other countries around the world. Since Christ ransomed peoples from all over the globe, we seek to be global Christians. Therefore, we desire that our prayers reflect this conviction.
Giving. We believe giving is an act of worship whereby we give out of the abundance of what God has given us. We do not expect non-members to give and we never pressure anyone to give. But we want to provide an opportunity for everyone to receive joy in the act of giving.
Observing the Ordinances. Scripture teaches that there are two ordinances of the church: baptism (Matt. 28:18-20) and the Lord's Supper (1 Cor. 11:23-28). Baptism is the public declaration of a believer's allegiance to Jesus and his/her symbolic identification with his death, burial, and resurrection. We practice baptism during our normal Sunday service, as occasion allows. The Lord's Supper is when the church remembers the broken body and spilled blood of Christ for her sake, as we eat bread and drink from the fruit of the vine. It is a symbolic reminder of what Christ accomplished for sinners and an occasion whereby we look forward to his return. We practice the Lord's Supper each Sunday during our normal worship gathering.
What to Wear
We do not have a formal dress code, so come as you are. Some men wear suits, some women dresses, while others wear jeans, and still others slacks. We will welcome you no matter how you're dressed. The majority of those in attendance dress business casual.
Parking
We have reserved some convenient parking spaces for guests. Enter the north lot (left of the building) from Kinney Avenue and look for spots to the left. If you require handicap accessible parking, we have plenty of spots available for you.
Getting Inside
You may enter the building through the front doors. Inside you will find a friendly face to welcome you and direct you where to go.
Children
At Kinney we welcome children in our services as it is a joy to see families worshiping together. We also provide child care (infant – 4yrs) during our service, along with Kinney Kids Time (K – 5th grade) during the preaching portion of the service. Children are dismissed for Kinney Kids Hour just before the sermon and a children's ministry worker will lead the children to their classroom. Click here for more info on our Kinney Kids Ministry.
